A Graceful Revival of the Old Mansion

当我们第一次踏入这栋湖边老宅，感受到的不只是历史留下的沉稳与厚重，还有因岁月而积累的封闭与沉闷。它是一栋已有百年历史的别墅，结构饱满、格局方正，原本具有极高的建筑价值。然而，多年前的装修风格早已过时，过于密集的墙体、冗余的材质堆叠、复杂的颜色搭配，让空间显得压抑、沉闷，遮蔽了它原本的灵魂。我们的任务，不是全盘推倒重建，而是在尊重它的基础之上，唤醒属于它的优雅气质。

When we first stepped into this lakeside residence, what greeted us wasn’t just the weight of time, but a kind of silence shaped by outdated renovation. The house, over a century old, retained its generous proportions and solid structure. Yet heavy ornamentation and tired finishes veiled its true character. Our task wasn’t to demolish and rebuild, but to listen, to peel back the layers, and to gently awaken the grace hidden beneath.

我们决定在保留原有建筑格局的前提下，重新为空间赋予材质、光线与气息的节奏。木质结构、主立柱、楼梯踏步等保留下来的原始框架，在新的材料体系中获得呼吸。深咖色木饰面延续沉稳的基调，辅以刺绣真丝硬包、手工屏风、羊毛地毯等具有东方文化气韵的元素，使整个空间在沉静中浮现层次，在深色之中闪现通透。

Rather than overwriting the home’s DNA, we retained its architectural logic—wooden beams, central columns, and the rhythm of the stairwell. Then we reimagined the skin it wears: dark walnut wood panels, silk-embroidered wall coverings, hand-painted screens, and wool rugs. These choices created a nuanced dialogue between past and present, allowing the space to breathe with restraint and clarity.

在功能划分上，这栋老宅既是居住空间，也承载着接待与社交的任务。我们没有将其完全功能化，而是让“住”与“待客”自然交织，通过空间的流动感、光线的穿透感，让人从私密转入公共、从正式过渡至日常。会议室背景选用墨绿色真丝刺绣背景，营造沉稳氛围，又不失温润气质；走廊以手绘真丝屏风作为隔断，让视觉穿透感更强，使空间更有呼吸感。

Functionally, the home needed to host more than just daily living—it also served as a venue for business and social gatherings. We avoided rigid compartmentalization. Instead, we allowed flow and light to naturally bridge formal and informal, private and public. A silk-embroidered green wall defines the meeting area with gravitas, while hand-painted screens along the hallway provide separation without opacity, giving each zone its own rhythm of pause and transition.

改造最关键的一步，是通过色彩和光线来消解原木黄调带来的压迫感。我们以深色木皮、墨色织物、黑白灰石材为主材体系，强调沉静的质感，让空间“静”下来；而在细节处，例如阳光洒落的茶室、书法台上的透明树脂装置，又通过“明”的点缀，为空间注入灵动。这是一种节制中的自由，让厚重中浮现清透。

The palette was carefully tuned to balance gravity with airiness. We used dark timber, charcoal textiles, and monochrome stone surfaces to mute the space’s overly yellow undertones and create calm. But the real poetry lies in the accents: sunlight filtered into the tea room, a translucent resin calligraphy desk catching the light. The result is a thoughtful interplay between density and brightness—where heaviness doesn’t overwhelm, and clarity softly emerges.

光，是这个项目最重要的叙事语言。我们打开南侧的非承重隔断，让阳光洒入茶室，再通过屏风做半遮半透的处理，使动线形成虚实过渡。光不仅塑造空间形态，也为使用者带来节奏感与情绪缓冲。书法台上的光影游走，就像墨与纸的留白，是对空间最好的诗意表达。

Light, in this project, is not just a design tool—it’s the storyteller. By removing non-structural partitions on the south side, we welcomed sunlight into the tea room. Screens were then placed to filter and soften that light, introducing rhythm to movement and transitions. The calligraphy desk captures shifting shadows like ink on parchment—a quiet dialogue between structure and sentiment.

软装设计中，我们尤其强调“形而上”的文化表达。家具没有拘泥于传统“中式”的形制符号，而是以简洁的东方线条、意式现代的比例与材质构成，表达一种含蓄的东方气质。灯具、案几、座椅等皆在“有礼”中自持风度，在当代语境中重述文化的姿态。这不是中式样板间，而是东方精神的隐约流淌。

In the soft furnishings, we avoided the cliché of overt chinoiserie. Instead, we curated pieces that whispered, not shouted—clean silhouettes with Eastern references, Italian restraint in form and proportion. Lamps, consoles, and lounge seating were chosen not for their iconography, but for their temperament. The result was not a showroom of heritage, but a lived-in space where culture lingers gently in the margins.

最终，我们用含蓄的方式，完成了一次对“中式文化当代表达”的尝试。在不破坏老宅原有肌理的基础上，通过材质的精炼、结构的调整与节奏的把握，让这栋老宅焕发出属于当下的气质与生命力。它没有过多装饰，却不乏丰盈；没有高声喧哗，却始终动人。

In the end, this project wasn’t about aesthetic grandeur—but about restraint with meaning. Without erasing the home’s origins, we brought in light, proportion, and a careful orchestration of material to reawaken its spirit for a contemporary context. It’s not lavish, but it is rich. It doesn’t shout, yet it stays with you.
